Wind Mitigation Inspection

All Florida insurance providers are required to provide windstorm premium discounts to homeowners having enhanced structural features in their homes, such as hip roofs, hurricane straps or clips and roof covering that meet the 2001 Florida Building Code. Houses built after 1994 in Miami-Dade or Broward Counties and houses built after 2002 in Florida already have many wind resistive construction features and could qualify for significant credits. A wind mitigation inspection will certify your homes existing construction features.
A wind mitigation inspection is an inspection of the home covering areas of a structure that help protect it from strong hurricane force winds. If a home has these protective features in place correctly, it can qualify for wind credits with any insurance company in Florida. This can mean a considerable savings for home owners.
First Choice Home Inspection will verify the year the roof was last installed, the roof decking type and method of installation. What type of roof to wall construction was used, and the geometric shape the roof designs. For gable ends, have they been appropriately braced according to the 2001 building code? We will also check for a secondary water resistance (SWR) barrier on the roof. Are all the openings of the home protected with impact rated products.
Many Florida homes already meet the requirements for deductions that the home owner may not even know about. Hip roofs and SWR barriers alone can save home owners hundreds of dollars a year on your insurance premiums!
